CRISTY ROAD

Cristy C. Road is a 26-year-old Cuban-American illustrator and writer. Blending social principles, sexual deviance, mental inadequacies, and social justice- she thrives to testify the beauty of the imperfect. Her obsession with making art accessible began when publishing GREEN'ZINE in 1996- a fanzine entirely devoted to Green Day. Eventually she began including blurbs on other punk rock bands, gender identity, masturbation, sexuality, aimless travel, and anarchist organizing. Today, Road has moved onto illustrated novels, taking both writing and visual elements a step more seriously, her visual diagram of lifestyles and beliefs stay in tune to the zine’s portrayal of living.

In early 2006, Road released an anomalous illustrated storybook, entitled INDESTRUCTIBLE (Microcosm Publishing). It’s a 96-page narrative about her experience as a teenager, where Road tackles the themes of being Latina, class, rebellion, gender, queerness, mental health, and death; all beneath the topical umbrella of being a teenage Floridian punk rocker in the early 90‘s. Road has recently completed a Collection of postcards featuring art from 2001-2007, entitled DISTANCE MAKES THE HEART GROW SICK (Microcosm Publishing). Road just released BAD HABITS (Soft Skull Press), an Illustrated love story about a faltering human heart's telepathic connections to the destruction of New York City. Road currently is working on paintings, short stories, and her punk band THE HOMEWRECKERS. In 2009 her repertoire consists of ten years of independent publishing, two graphic novels, and countless illustrations for a broad slew of magazines, record album art, concert posters, and political organizations. She lives in Brooklyn, NY.

HORSEBITES

Horsebites consists of solo un hombre Richard Minino residing in the concrete backyard of the great Disney World in Orlando, Florida. His inspiration includes the juxtaposition of the enchantment forced upon him growing up in the shadow of the Mouse and the disenchantment of the punk shows, which are also very near and dear to his heart. His work explores the true meaning of aggression and violently shoves the mind into another realm of the imagination.

PATRICK J. STEFANO

"Patrick J. Stefano has achieved something between ubiquity and notoriety in Rochester over the years. As he has grown from a rowdy young camera-bearing hooligan into a rowdy old camera-bearing hooligan, his work has become increasingly representative of a small but vibrant local scene. Characterized by athletic, combat zone-style shots of bands, striking close-up portraits, and daring photojournalistic storytelling, Stefano's work is bold and visceral. Keep an eye out for the tattoo-covered cameraman throwing himself and his equipment into harm's way this weekend as he takes Fest 9 by storm. Gainesville may never recover."

CRAIG HORKY

Craig Horky attempt to subvert and juxtapose paradigms in a milieu of post-modern disassociate dialectics; upsetting hermeneutic considerations through the interface of the platonic and the profane. Craig hemorrhages art at an alarming rate. He is a diacritical post-satirist within self-imposed catacombs of an anxious civilization, spelunking the chthonic depths of a pulchritudinous psyche. He also enjoys cheese.

VALERIE GEORGE

The driving force behind the art project Nam June Psyche by Valerie George is the navigation between the idioms of academic research into aurality and the D.I.Y approaches to experimental music. This investigation is manifested through the blending of landscape photography, videography, performance and sound composition. Nam June Psyche tours the United States to visit aural and visual artists and designated urban and rural landscapes in order to record site-specific aural tracks and accompanying videos.

The Car Kit, which is a constant physical and conceptual element throughout the project, is essential. Many of the chosen landscapes are remote, therefore, electrical outlets are absent. The Car Kit has been altered to function as both a vehicle, and self-reliant mobile recording studio complete with sound amplification capabilities.

With a nod to the spirit of Kerouac, Thoreau, and the forty-year history of the D.I.Y. music touring community, Nam June Psyche sets out to document and archive a visual and aural collaboration with artistic experimenters within the ever changing American landscape.

Valerie received her MFA from the University of California at Davis. She is currently the Head of Sculpture at the University of West Florida and was the visiting lecturer of Sculpture at Stanford University, summer 2009.

JOHN DYER BAIZLEY

As the singer/guitarist for the infamous band Baroness, John Baizley has toured the world over, releasing several critically acclaimed albums on the iconic Relapse label - also home to Mastodon, Dillinger Escape Plan, Neurosis and countless others. As an artist, John has created the album art for all the Baroness releases as well as many other classic albums, including Pig Destroyer's "Phantom Limb"and "In Return" by Torche, as well as the newest release by HBO supergroup Flight Of The Conchords. John's lush artwork shows the influence of two major artists - Pushead, through his morbid subject matter and fine-line detail, as well as Art Deco godfather Alphonse Mucha. The few available prints John has made, most culled from album art, or specially made tour-only posters have all been hopelessly sold out, resulting in a fanatic fanbase competing for the precious available works - putting John in the same rabid collector conversation as Shepard Fairey, Emek, and others. John's first foray into the fine arts world came in September '08 at a group show for Upper Playground's Fifty24Sf Gallery, along with peers Stephen O'Malley (of the band SunnO), Aaron Turner (from the band Isis), as well as noted printmaker Aaron Horkey. His debut solo exhibition at the Metropolis Gallery in November of '09 featured a landmark collection of his original watercolors and pen & ink pieces, and was his first ever showing of original work to the general public. New gallery exhibitions as well as books and other projects are in the works, as Baroness' imposing touring schedule will allow.

DANIEL P. WILLIAMS

Born 1983 - Columbus, Ohio
Living and working in Clearwater, Florida

Daniel Williams is a graphic and fine artist working in Clearwater, FL. Williams’ introduction to the arts began with a tendency to draw as a child during class, and his resulting detention periods. As a teenager he was introduced to punk rock and concert posters. Soon he created nearly 200 concert posters for Tampa Bay area clubs, as well as dozens of album packaging and band merchandising projects for artists nationally.

In 2005, Williams first exhibited as a fine artist while working in downtown Los Angeles. Living in such an immense, developed environment was a profound experience and is recognized in his work. He returned to Tampa and studied life - drawing at local studios.

Daniel developed a technique, "Line, Light, and Layer," which used layered sheets of glass to present multiple line and figure drawings at varying perspectives. The layered and wiry line drawings give playful expression to a traditional technique.

Recent exhibits include mixed-media works using acrylic, paper, and ink on wood and illustration board. For a musically themed exhibit he produced a series, "Xaes: of visual." The 22 Xaes collages were created from deconstructed album packaging. The series focused on nostalgic value, form and design, and a pop aesthetic. The concept re-interpreted selected album packaging designs using a few modern visual arts movements, including de Stijl and constructivism.

Other new work includes layering geometric paint forms, road and aerial maps and other technical forms. Williams serves as Visual Arts editor for The Studio Review. Mike Salay, is a 35 year old tattooer from Gainesville Florida. His paintings are done mostly with watercolors, liquid acrylics and ink. He has been tattooing for 10 years, 6 of those years as a professional. You can find him at Anthem Tattoo Parlor Located at 102 SW 6th Street or feel free to call him at the shop.
